Fair enough, I'll kick off then. I'm 32 and live in the North Belfast/Newtownabbey area, so I'll know some of the waters Wayne fishes like Straid. I started fishing quite young (descended from a family of anglers - dad, grandad etc) and probably started fly fishing when I was maybe 9 or 10. I didn't actually catch anything on the fly until I was 12 I think. I gave up fishing in my late teens but about 5 years ago I mentioned to my dad that I was thinking of starting again. He bought me a Trion reel for my birthday (or was it Christmas) and that started me up again (it also started him again as he'd stopped for a couple of years). I bought a fly tying kit and started that again.

So that's me. who's next? Smile

Welcome to the fourm Beatnik 69.

Congratulations on a consise, yet informative overview of you background.

It makes good reading even if it does not explain the significance of the 69 in your alias.

Cheers

Laughing That one's simple. Someone in work one day called me a beatnik as I was wearing a black polo neck. That night I was setting up a hotmail account and thought beatnik@... would be a good email address. Unfortunately it was taken but Beatnik69 was one of the alternatives offered so I took it for the obvious pervy connotations. Now where would Bazza originate...? Very Happy

Fair enough question 69 & thanks for your explanation.

Bazza is a generally accepted "downunder" coloquism ( spelling? ) or nickname for anyone named Barry.

You will have to excuse some of our peculiarities ( spelling once again, hope you are not a teacher ) for as
Rich aka Sweeper Driver says we are permantly upside down, so probably get too much blood to the head.

Mind you he has not told us what HIS excuse is, but knowing Rich, no doubt he soon will.

Cheers Barry

Hello everyone!

My name's Chris, I'm 30. Only a recent convert to fly fishing, but spent a lot of time course fishing as a kid. Spent a day on the severn at Caersws with an instructor a couple of weeks back, so I can at least cast without piercing my ears!

I'm now spending every possible minute working my way around local-ish spots.

Cheers,
Chris

Welcome Chris, I think now "bitten" you are about to start
a long but rewarding journey, albeit often a frustrating one.

Thats the spot (I can hear the accent in there Lakefisher Very Happy )

It was a scorching day and the river was very low and very clear. Had a couple of taps but didn't land anything.

First time I'd fished a river and I must say, it's far more interesting than stocked lakes when you're not catching.

Off to a local stocked lake next tuesday for the day... hopefully more productive!

Cheers,
Chris
