A friendly competition entering it's 8th year in memory of our late mate Roy Vernon-Stroud who went off to fish greater pastures in 2010. Once again, it's being held at Thornton reservoir in Leicestershire on April 15th 2018 from morning till afternoon so get there around 8.30am. It's easy access from the M1 and we have 6 boats reserved although tubers and bank fishers are welcome as well. There will be the usual ceremonial photograph of the assembled throng with Roy's cherry trees and I daresay anybody who fancies popping down with a tent the previous day will enjoy an evening meal at the local pub with us! Cool

Tube for me please!
Revell in a boat.

Usual rules apply. Any fish caught near Mick count as two.

It's a 'maybe' from me at the moment as Steve (Blondie) is on the wrong shift and I have to check my tent in case I need to replace it. Sad

I will confirm one way of the other nearer to the time and if I can make it, I'll drive up Saturday morning, fish in the afternoon and then drive back Sunday afternoon after the match. Smile

I'll try and get a table started so we can get some idea of attendees and those planning to stop the previous night. Cool

Morning chaps

With less than a month to go, do we have any more takers?
We'll need to let Ifor know as we have reserved a few boats.

Cheers!

I will be attending Nigel, so put me down for a boat please. Very Happy

All being well I'll travel up on Saturday arriving around noon as usual and will travel back home on Sunday after the match. However if there has been as much rain around Thornton as there has been down South it might be worth checking with Ifor if overnight camping will be OK. The ground is saturated around here. Sad

I also note that Steve (blondie) is down as a possible. Might be worth checking with him as I believe he is working that weekend? Smile

Thornton Weekly Report - Week ending 8th April

Tel 01530 230807

Well that was a tough week again due to the weather and the past weeks heavy rainfall. Tuesday we had water clarity of 5in by Sunday we were closer to 18in. Not surprising few rods fished due to the conditions.

As the weather improved this week our water temperature started to climb, by Sunday we were 8+degrees, what is surprising is the amount of buzzer on the water this week, some of the hatches have been the best I’ve seen in a number of years, with buzzers of all sizes.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday we had fish moving to the buzzers with the majority to be seen over the main basin. What was surprising with the number of buzzers how quickly the trout had become preoccupied on one particular size, a size 14 black buzzer certainly caught more of the feeding fish than a size 12

Float Tube Association visited on Saturday, faced with tough conditions the fishing was never going to be easy, S. Frakes, R. Dunnett, T Parker & T Thomas all recorded a brace each.

With over 3,500 trout in the reservoir and a good forecast for the week which should see our clarity improve further combined with the excellent buzzer hatches we will see an upturn in sport.

Best method, floating line, size 14 black buzzer, bibio, cats whisker

Call the lodge for latest update.

Rod Average 0.8

Having worked flat out to catch up with normal work a little I had hoped to make this at the last minute but sadly a few other things have cropped up all at the same time which I need to be around for so it's just not going to happen for me this year. I'm sure you'll all enjoy yourself regardless and I bet the fishing will be better for my absence. I'm ringfencing the Elinor dates now so will catch up with you all then...
