Chris,
Would it be possible to have a RIVERS only section on this forum? with maybe some sub-sections similar to "Welsh Rivers and Streams" or English Rivers and streams" Etc.
Then subscribers could name their river in that sub-section "River Taff, or Wye, Usk, or Conwy, Dee, etc. then post their fishing exploits for river fishing on that section.
PLEASE!
Thanks

I think Mostyn is onto something here. When this forum first started I didn't post a great deal bcause it appeared to be mostly stillwater (ressy) fishing. At the time I was mostly fishing rivers. As such I didn't really see where any of my reports would fit in naturally, they didn't seem to fit with the three sections - Venue Reviews, Catch Reports or Fishery Reports.
So separate rivers and stillwaters (including lochs and loughs) sections within the Catch Reports forum would get my vote.
I'm not sure that there is the volume of posting to justify sub sections for Welsh, English etc rivers. The small rivers thread on the fff was a success because it was NOT regional, everyone was posting in th same thread which kept it busy. If a busy thread naturally evolves within the rivers section (much like the Bristol Waters thread has) then all well and good but I don't think you can force it by dividing stuff up from the start.
I also wonder if it worth dumping some stuff - starting with Venue Reviews.
Over to the regular posters to pull it all apart!

Some well thought out suggestions to which I have no objection in principle although I do wonder if more sections and sub sections are really necessary?
All you need to do is start a thread called 'River Taff' (for example) in Catch Reports and in your first post ask everyone to post their reports under that thread.
If the Mods are in agreement they could help by moving any subsequent 'River Taff' catch report threads to the main thread to keep things tidy. This may mean a bit more more work for them to start with but I'm sure everyone will soon catch on.
Just a thought.

I have asked the question to Chris and the other Mods.
I think its a good idea but I don't know how feasable it is.
Hope that it can be put in place. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/groups/completefisher/ |

Good call Chris, and I'm sure the thread per venue idea is the best way forward as long as people take it up.

Hi Chris,
Hope you don't mind me poking my nose in again? But I think there should be a RIVERS & Stream Section! Putting it under catch reports hasn't worked very well; as most people would look for a specific section. I wouldn't normally associate Catch Reports with River and Stream fishing! More about what you've caught etc.
Would it be possible to have a rivers and stream section?
Thanks

No-one reports on rivers where i live ......club owned mostly so sworn to secrecy, they dont mind reporting on their club comps though, mainly rainbow trout stillwaters though. ....gained from day ticket anglers. ...every river club here seems to own a stocked pond. _________________ If you cant take it,.....dont give it |

Guys - I'm not convinced that the forum architecture is the problem.
You just need start posting you catch reports (or blank reports!) more regularly under a single venue (or group of venues) thread and soon others who fish the venue(s) will join you and a community will develop around that thread
I'm sure that regular posting on a single venue thread is the key to the success of the Bristol Water thread.

Spot on Alan.
However G@TN/Geordie has a point - I mostly fish a club stretch of river which has plenty of poaching problems. So much so that members now tend to be rather guarded when asked about the fishing by passers by...
Give me a fortnight and I'll be updating the Duchy thread, and should be able to pop a couple more updates on as the season progresses. |
