Another pattern emanating from Tweedside in recent years, the Gledswood Shrimp incorporates the popular and highly mobile Arctic Fox fur in both the tail, and wing, and in keeping with modern trends is tied with the dressing extending well beyond the hook bend.
Can be tied in all sizes, and indeed on tubes, but i have found it most effective for grilse in the summer months tied on size 12 or 14 hooks, and often use it as a dropper fly at these times.
Hooks: Singles, Doubles, Trebles, Sizes 6 to 14
Tying Thread: Red or Black 8/0
Tail: Black Arctic Fox about twice the length of the hook, with a couple of strands of Gold Krystal Flash
Body: Flat Pearl Tinsel
Rib: Fluro Green Monofilament over full body length.
Hackle: Yellow Cock tied beard style
Wing: Black Arctic Fox extending back to end of tail, or a fraction beyond, and a couple of strands of Gold Krystal Flash
Cheeks: Small Jungle Cock
Head: Red _________________ Brian G |
