As promised a wee while ago, here's the step-by-step for the Croteero, a fly I developed this summer.
I tried it out in Norway on the river Glomma, and the grayling just loved them...
First the basic pattern:
Take a dry fly hook, a size 17 TMC 102Y in this case, and tie in the tail:

Cock-de Leon fibres used here.
The length of the tail should be approx. he sama as the length of the hook-shank.

The body is just black tying-thread, Danvilles 6/0 used here.

Rib the body with Pearl Krystal flash.

tie in a wing of CDC, using several bunches.

Pull the wing upright, and tie several wraps of thread at the base of the wing,

Whip finish and the fly is done...

An emerger pattern did a great job as well,
the diference lies in the hook, using a TMC 2487 size 18 here

A few longer strands are tied in before tying in the wing.

The wing if formed in the same way as used in the original Croteero.

Of course a Para-croteero can be made by tying a hackle round the wing-post:

Good luck and happy tying...
Cheers, Hans.
