It seems a lot of people pack up for the winter and just tie flies. Do you continue to fish through the winter? Do you change the species you target or do you change to a different type of fishing?

The club I am a member of has two lakes that are open till the end of the year, then closed till 1st March, so I carry on fishing for trout till then, after which I lay off for those two months then start again.
This time though, there might be a little grayling trip somewhere along the way. _________________ I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean!! |

I dont stop completely i just slow down a bit. I tend to go to small stillwaters or the odd grayling trip. I will go to the Gludy lake in Wales over the winter for some winter fishing with the lads. That tends to be more of a drink up. I tend to tie a lot of flies over the winter and buy tackle that i think i will need but never use. _________________ www.orchardit.co.uk |

Not by a long shot. I live in Michigan over here on the over side of the pond so we have good fishing from Nov-April for steelhead in our rivers. So My trout and other resident species fishing is done now, but now I shift into chasing Steelhead all winter long.

Grayling, pike, dace, chub on the fly. A spot of bait dunking for barbel. Might even take Dangler's Vice out after flounder again. Not over by a long shot. _________________ Regards,

By no means. Just had successful week on the tweed and will be trying to get a bit more salmon fishing in before all the rivers close. Still have 5 weeks till the close of some. Have already started grayling fishing which I'll do through the winter. Pike, perch and chub now all start to come into their own and that to will go on all winter. Get your thermals on and get out there. |

I only fish still-waters for trout from September through till the middle of June. Winters is the best time on stillwaters! In the summer I fish for course fish.(fly) Maybe a trip to a reservoir. I fish on the river all year round for what ever is in season. |
