I had a solo boat on Chew today and elected to target the Perch as I felt the water would be too warm to safely fish for Pike. This was confirmed by the temperature gauge on my sounder which never fell below 73F /22.8C all day.
However despite fishing deep water with a D7 and Perch sized flies the Pike were more responsive than the better Perch which is why this has ended up in the Fly Fishing for Pike section! Despite my determination to catch Perch, I ended up with a 10-7, a 10-1, a 7lb and a 5lb Pike coming to the net with another around 7lb coming adrift.
Finding decent Perch among the large shoals of small ones turned out to be more of a challenge, but I eventually found a small pod of better fish and hooked two at once, only for the better fish on the point to slip the hook during the netting process.
I also got to try out a gadget I got from China for the first time that allows you to clamp your camera to one of the boat seats for solos pics. Happy with the performance although the photographer definitely needs more practice

Great stuff Alan. I like the mixed picture of fish and fish finder
It makes me want to pack the car and set off down the M4.
It would be great to see a picture of the successful flies or would that be a step to far.

The flies were nothing special, just oversized Clouser Minnows with chainbead eyes to give that all important jigging movement. With so many small fish around it was a good opportunity to compare the effectiveness of various patterns and those with chain bead eyes which created a jigging movement definitely out fished everything else.

I can only fish vicariously since the Covid lockdown, not having left my bungalow since March. So videos like these help a lot.
Memories of 3 foot pike following my fly to the boat brought into sharp focus

If you call a leader of six feet of 30 pound nylon, followed by 12 to 18 inches of 25 pound BS bite proof wire "short" - then the answer is yes. Pike are not normally shy of terminal tackle.
Speaking of flys - any colour, size, or shape will catch - IF the pike see it as "acceptable prey"
