A morning out at Cleatham, and a chance to catch up with Frank the Bailiff and see the new fencing and stairs he’s installed around the office. Very impressive! 😎 So, sun beating down, anglers reaching for the fast sinking lines and lures and nobody really expecting much by way of catching. Call me contrary, but having seen one fish rise in a corner of the lake I decided to see if dries would have any effect. An SKB Goddard Caddis on the point with an SKB Black Gnat on the dropper were installed, just in time for a pair of patrolling fish in front of me. A mere 5 metre cast was enough to hook the leading fish on the caddis with the second chasing the dropper all over the place until it lost interest when I got the net in the water. This procedure carried on until lunch mainly to the caddis but a couple to the gnat, see a moving fish and cast in front of it, regardless of ripple. By noon I’d landed 7 rainbows, one of which decided to lay down it’s life for my tea, so with the temperatures escalating towards 30 I returned home to open some cold beers. Fishing can be weird sometimes, they shouldn’t have been reacting like that with the sun in their eyes but I wasn’t complaining. BBQ time later, trout with onion, salt and ginger on the fillets ready for a hot smoke. Lovely fishery Cleatham, highly recommended! 😎😎😎

Sensible prices too, not like those southern / south west fisheries.
