BÅ•rrrrrr that was cold - went afloat today on F2. Surprisingly only one other boat out and just a handful of bankers. Chris pointed me to the SE of the lake and confirmed fish had been taken on the wl, well I gave that a good go along with straight nymphs, small lures and managed just one fish and lost one. Went walkabout and managed just one more fish so set up a di5 with lures and tried this back drifting malarkey. Cripes it can be cold work facing a NW with a chill factor of about 5c. Anyway a savage take to a white snake resulted in a fit 3lber and that was it. Gave it best at 3.45 just 15 minutes before the whistle and had a long drive home with the rush hour traffic. May just wipe my sword for this year unless we get some Clement weather with light winds. Cheers Doug.

Tenet Back drifting Very Happy
It is still a challenge at Farmoor at the moment.

Meanwhile, I was on F1 chasing Perch. The trout were active deep down and we had one perch ( not me) just under 3lb.
The very strange thing was despite using state of the art electronics we had trouble finding bait fish so therefore finding the perch.
A few months back F1 was alive with small perch, not doubt the 50 odd cormorants have eaten well.

Purely in the name of experimentation you understand. Embarassed Embarassed

I found it a bit like sea fishing without the booze and on this occasion no company Smile

Boat on F2 today - conditions started of very good but the south east breeze turned quite fresh at times. Both Pino and I struggled utilising the full gambit of lines and flies. Managed just 2 fish as did Pino. The picture shows the best of the batch which produced a surprise on gutting especially as it took a dB on the middle dropper. I think that's me done for the year and hope next season is better than this which has been blighted with theong hot summer. Cheers Doug

Two at the moment is a result I would say, so well done.
I was trying to work out what those fish were, they had the look of small perch and or roach but difficult to tell.
Fingers crossed I may get a day or two backdrifting in before 2019.

Peter,

The small fish are ruffe, or pope if you prefer. The record is only about 4oz. I guess they came in from the Thames as fry. The trout will like them and so will the perch.
