Morning all!
Just wanted to update everyone regarding the Facebook group.

The Facebook group page, for those who are in it, has recently descended into a page of content which has nothing to do with fishing at all. The content is now jokes, insults thrown at each other (in a fun way!) and the odd bit of fun news stories. I have keep this group open for those that wish to continue but I have also created a new group solely for the purpose of which it was intended for.

The Facebook group isn't at all to replace this forum, it is just a way of attracting new members and for existing members to post directly onto Facebook from their phones whilst on the bank. The idea then, is for the same member to re-post their Facebook post on here as well.

If any of you would like to join, send me, Richard, Chris or Paul a PM an we can add you to it.

You haven't missed anything guys Rolling Eyes , and you have made the right decision, Nigel Cool

Facebook's strength is you can upload comments, pics and even video clips within seconds of things happening which enables you to share moments instantly with others especially those who aren't present. A good example of this would be the various uploads during forum socials. The downside is the fast turnover of information on Facebook encourages instant comment with little time for reflection before the subject matter becomes lost under newer content. It also seems to favour those who know each other very well already.

Well run Forums like this one provide a platform for more considered discussion and information sharing which in my experience rarely happens on Facebook.

Hopefully people who do initially post on Facebook, particularly catch reports, will take the time to re-post on here too. Just out of interest, I wonder how long it will be before Forums like this are able to host video clips as well as picture files like facebook? Smile

That's the idea, and also to try and attract new blood to this forum to help alleviate (via greater awareness of SKB products) the considerable and increasing costs of its maintenance, which is unlikely to happen without a FB presence nowadays. The CFFFB is moderated and administered by the same team as this forum so we have a good standing in that department, added to which, we already have members on there that don't really get on with forum formats such as this so we are now offering the best of both worlds.

Hosting video clips would be technically possible but the issue would be with the increased storage it would eventually require and that will come at a price, the cost effectiveness of which is open to doubt. I suspect that if anything, it's likely that Facebook will develop to allow a forum type structure, at which point it will become equably searchable as this forum is now. Also, from a purely commercial point of view, the Facebook page is free for SKB to operate, another very important factor! Very Happy

For those of you who aren't or don't want to be on Facebook that's absolutely fine, it's no problem as you won't see it so it'll have no effect, positive or negative, on your viewing pleasure here - although it may just introduce you to some new people. Cool

Onwards and upwards....

Since yesterday's launch we now have 141 members on the CFFFB as of 23rd December 2017, so hopefully they will take the time to have a look at this site in due course. How this will pan out long term remains to be seen but it's promising to say the least! Very Happy

A quick update, we have now added a further 25 members to CFFFB since Christmas 2017 and continue to cross pollinate the two entities. Cool

Good news! Cool

At the moment the cross pollination effect is limited by the lack of fishing taking place but once the better weather arrives I'm sure many of us will want to exploit the strengths of both platforms. Smile

I'm looking forward to it! Very Happy

Anyone on Facebook can request to join the CFFFB group. There are 5 moderators (the same five as exist on here) and one of us will process it. We're up to 218 members now.

The address is: Complete Fisher Forum Facebook Group
