It’s now Saturday night and after a round half dozen cans of Grolsch it’s sleep time as we are off piking in the morn!

The weather is horrible! The venue is Mytchett Lake in Surrey fishing from the military bank within Keogh Barracks.

Due to the inclement weather I decide to fish from the clubhouse doorway LOL

Nothing for a few hours when I decide to set up a 4th rod with a little rubber shad with which I caught two pike on consecutives casts at the same venue a week previously.

1st cast and I’m into a little snapper, totally dwarfed by my landing net. Not what we came for but insures against the B word!

2nd cast…..nought, bummer eh! Would have been a good stat having had 2 fish on two consecutive casts two weeks running, but it wasn’t to be.

However a few more casts and I’m into a slightly bigger but still small pike! I wish I had a few live baits as it seems that the fish are active on this water and ignoring my nice Lamprey, smelt and Rudd deads that are out on two floats and one popped up leger.

Numero Dos:

Any bait fished on the bottom of this venue must be popped up to beat both the weed and the crayfish though I haven’t seen much sign of the latter recently.

I get fed up lure fishing as the rain is back on and retreat indoors to drink cup a soup (chicken noodle flavour).

Shortly afterward I spot my float moving into the waves, which is suspicious and I strike into my first bait caught pike in weeks. It immediately kites left toward my legered bait so I drop the other rod tip and it passes safely over and is landed without fuss. Clearly this pike fancied a bit of lamprey instead of a blue and white shad.

Sunday night was early to bed and now as I write this on Monday, I’ve arranged a trip to Holbury Lakes trout fishery in the morning with my mate Graham for a bit of fluff chucking! Was going to go to Meon but Holbury is much closer and a new water to me.

And you know how that went as I posted that report earlier in the week! Razz
