Report for June 2006.

Hopefully the very hot weather and clear skies appear to have subsided somewhat. The last few days have proved quite difficult for most fishermen. When conditions are as such fly fishing can become a little difficult. Remember fly fishing is a skill that you hone over the years. You are trying to induce the Trout to take something that is artificial and presentation is everything. The former founder of Pennine Mr Roger Ditchfield would always say when conditions are as they have been you have to "Ring the Changes" to catch trout which simply means you have to put a little more effort and thought into your fishing and try something that you would not normally use. The majority of Trout remain in deep water when the skies are bright and will only take of the surface when cloud cover blanks out the sun. With so much natural food in the water at this time of the year buzzer and nymph patterns are the best although the egg fly will also catch well fished from the sight bob. And remember as the water warms up in the summer months Trout slow down so fish something more natural looking like nymphs or diawl backs with a slow figure of eight retrieve. Regards Lee Moran. 13.06.06.

Buzzer specialist Alan Taylor netted two fine rainbows in consecutive visits, his first 10lb 6oz was caught on a floating line and a home tied size 16s buzzer. His second a 16lb 6oz also caught on home tied pattern.

Local anglers Simon Frankland and Frank Gregory both broke there personal records at Pennine this week, Simon caught a 17lb rainbow, his tactics was to fish a floating line with a pink buzzer. Meanwhile Frank used his favourite white fritz pattern to lure in a cracking 16lb 4oz rainbow.

Cheshire angler Colin Griffiths took a leaf out of Steve Carsons book by copying Steve's usual method, sinking line and a black tinhead to catch his first double at Pennine. The fish weighed 19lb 12oz and was caught on the dam wall near the cages.

A lot of fisheries up and down the country could learn a lot from Pennine they provided us with something that we want at the end of the day. More double figure leviathans (BIG FISH) than you could shake a stick at.Undercover report by the magazines editor Tim Smith and agent X undercover fly fishery investigator.

18.08.2006.

Thankfully the rains have arrived at Pennine at last, both our springs are now pumping hard and fast giving the waters the much needed input of clear fresh water. And what a difference to the fishing this is making. Steve Carson from Huddersfield netted a superb Rainbow of 14lb from the upper water using a black tin head.Alan Taylor from Rochdale netted a 10plus Rainbow. With falling water temperatures we are at last able to move and restock some of our larger fish to both of our waters.Diawl Bach,Buzzers, Hares Ear,Damsels all taking fish.Rod average 10 fish per session, average weight 4.2lb.
