I went fishing for cod today.

Not cold enough yet so no cod, just a few Flounder and Rockling. Humber Estuary again. Brown shrimp bait.

This is all quite new to me but I have to say I'm enjoying it! Wink

Not cold enough? there has been loads of good cod caught lately on the Kent coast - thinking of going myself as soon as I can.

Must be a regional thing. 230 miles difference! Still not showing much up here according to the anglers I've quizzed.

No cod for me today. We arrived in darkness and fished until an hour after high tide.

There's something quite eerie about Immingham.

The sun put in an appearance around 9.30am.

Followed by this half reasonable Whiting caught on black lug-worm as the tide retreated. That's the two flounders from yesterday and this for tea tonight.

I'll be out tonight somewhere.

Delicate crumbly flesh on whiting Rich and make sure you cook them quickly they soon turn.

Sea rats (whiting) are in plague proportions again on the Kent beaches - a common method now is to live bait with one. Cast out a big pennel type rig with a 2/0 hook and a huge hook on the top, bait just the small one - whiting comes along and eats the small bait - cod comes along and eats the whiting and hopefully engulfs it so the big hook nails him.

Sounds like the local coarse fishery a mile or two down the road that I used to frequent Chris! They're walking over them there at the moment Very Happy

Sadly, it's bloody hard work where I've been going but I'm new to it and each time I chuck it a little further and do a little better. I'm going to give some of the beaches north of Hull a go soon. I've heard that things are a lot simpler there!

Went out last night in the hail and rain.

Had the usual dogs, and the Daddy of a whiting, pushing 2lb approx 18" long on a whole squid and 6/0. Very Happy
