I have to say £3 for a furled leader is good value for money, i make my own now , but in mono Embarassed and i know how fiddly and how much thread is used to make them , so £3 is a bargain, i must say though i much prefer tippet rings on mine Shock
Well done Mr Trout for bringing a bargain to the table Wink

One more thing about furled leaders, they last a long time, not like tapered leaders , also if using a long tippet attach 18in of heavy mono or alike to the end of the furled leader just to help the turnover of long tippets, i use 15lb because ive got loads of it and it suits my mono F leaders Laughing Gaz

Now available with mini rings for those who prefer them, at only 50p extra.

You know what Bill, I quite fancy a go at it, and yes, I could make some FL's at that length, big jig though!!
Takes over 40 yards of thread for a 5ft one so a 12 footer would eat the stuff, couldn't afford to get those wrong at the last minute. Shock
No UK dealers yet for the Tenkara rods?

Steven,

Well, you can get Tenkara rods in the UK.

TenkaraUSA now distribute from the UK to Europe.

So you order on the USA website, pay in $ and only pay about £6 UK delivery and get the good dollar exchange rate.

My rod including delivery cost about £95.00 and was delivered in about three days.

If you need any help I'll give you some of my limited knowledge of the rods.

12'-0" furled leader would be very nice, I'm sure I could trial one for you Very Happy

Go one , give it a go. Cool

Just back from a fortnight in the sun, remember that stuff?? Smile
Sorry haven't been on for a while, not been too well with a number of problems, but hopefully getting sorted out now.
All the Furled leaders are the same price, £3 for the olive green, and £4 for the Hi Viz ones.
Only thing that's altered a touch is P&P on any qty is now 75p, you can thank RM for that!! Evil or Very Mad
Koz, you have PM re your order.
Cheers Steven.

Steven, like Bill, I've got into this Tenkara thing. How about a 10 - 12ft high viz FL to take a 4lb tippet?

Hi Rich, hope you're good mate.
It's a difficult one really this 10 to 12 ft leader, a 5ft one takes approx 44 yards of thread to make one, so a 12 footer would be more like 120 yards or so.
OK that can be done, but the next problem is, you need a separate jig for each size, so in my case I have three, 3ft 4ft and 5ft.
When you have done your wraps around all the pegs, you teh spin each side seperately, you need to keep tension on the end with the, in my case Dremel, and your second hand releases the thread from the pegs, I can just reach to 5ft.
After spinning you take the whole length, apply heavy weights, then hang them to furl, you would need to go up a stepladder to reach your hanging point, and inside a property, in my case my garage, the ceiling is I think 7ft 9".
Whilst walking from the jig to the hanging point, the leader has to be kept taught, or twisting will occur, so it would need two people at all times to tie one leader.
Not as easy as it sounds I'm afraid.
If there was sufficient demand, it may pay, but I can't see my wife wanting to spend her days tying FL's. Very Happy
There are other methods, like laying bricks with holes in, engineering bricks, out on the floor, and inserting wooden dowels at strategic points, but you still have the problem of final furling.

Thanks for that explanation of the mechanics involved Steven. A lot more complex than I thought!

I'll stick with the one I have for now and hope I don't snap it! Very Happy

Rich you could always buy two of my 5ft ones, and knot them together. Laughing
If I can find a way of doing them longer, Ill let you know.
