Just one thing to add,I would recommend people read the poem mentioned on the service book. I found it very moving and appropriate for the occasion.

You can read the poem by following this link ... http://northernillinoisflytyers.blogspot.com/2006/11/trout-fishing-poem.html

I must say it really captures the essence of fishing and it is a fitting tribute to Roy. Smile

It was a lovely service, with many references to his fishing and hiking exploits.

It was indeed a fitting tribute to an outstanding man. As Mark says the poem is particularly appropriate; "magic skill" and "on craft intent" is definitely Roy.

It did occur to me that, had Roy been there at the time, the reading from the Gospel would have been different. More likely:-
Disciple - Lord, we have only two fishes.
Roy - Just give me a couple of minutes.

Hi. For various reasons I have not been on the site much just lately and to read this is very sad, Roy (as someone posted earlier ) came over as a friend you have never met. RIP Roy.

Hello,

Many thanks to those that got to the service for taking the time to update on the forum.
Thank you.

And to Markwm for sharing the stories of his times with you, thank you.

Just a quick post to add to a point made in Markwm's post about Roy "places" ...

There is a wee pool, about 20m down from this view of the digs in the Czech Republic that will forever be named "Roy's Pool":

Not too unlike this:

Rest In Peace my friend.

Who is going to get the tree planted?
If funds are required, just let me know,
gladly willing to contribute.
Cheers,
Hans

Can trees be planted successfully in winter .... would have thought
mid autumn would be better suited.

Of course there's no chance of planting a tree successfully right now.
Just trying to get things started...

We are having a bit of a discussion on the best way to go about doing this and will set up a collection for the tree.

If anyone has any past experience in planting trees then please shout!

Chris
