Hi Gaz,
I fancy a change of scenery, need to restock the freezer and most importantly get my mate into a fish or two. The Mere is great if you fancy a puzzle but as its my birthday I don't really want to stretch myself too much nor be extracting flies from trees all the time BTW starting to see a few fish cruising about on lake 1 in the far corner (where 1,2,3 meet) under the trees which are bigger than average - not winkled any out yet...

Tried to get a brown out in the trees close to the bank in the left bay on lake1, the bugger wouldnt have it , he was feeding , but buzzer or sm nymph wouldnt tempt him, i presume your talking about "cold corner" as i call it on the house side? had me 20 fish out of there "not lately" , if temps are causing the fish to be finicky then iwould expect them to be there ,but it dont always work like that do it Good luck and enjoy yer birthday, mines coming up and are debating where to go, knowing me it wil be the mere :rofl:or shall i try dever to warm for lechlade Gaz _________________ If in doubt, get the montys out |

Although at this time of year Lechlade is normally terrible, reports suggest it is fishing its socks off at the moment. Tempted to wander down there myself at some point. _________________ Rugby - http://s2.excoboard.com/Igloo2

Well I went to Meon on sunday, 11-4pm with Beardy, sadly DIY and a hangover stopped our beginner mate coming along - we will get him out soon tho'. Weather started cloudy but soon turned to intermittent sunshine
Water very clear so you could see everything. Nearly all the fish were around 1 3/4 - 2lb and in reasonable nick, a few looked slightly larger - not particularly spooked by people on the bank - there were a few - but not shoulder to shoulder. The fish were reasonably spread out.
Tried to target the bigger ones with a couple of stalking bugs - good fun but to no avail - a few follows but no real attempts at a take.
In the end had 3 stockies on f-fly, drowned daddy and one that snatched my cats whisker esq bug while momentarily obscured by a gust of wind. The catch n release section was very low of water though - fish didnt seem to mind and were rising and cruising about without stress. Didnt fish it much as there wasnt any flow and I thought the fish might be a bit susceptible to being caught and stressed (that and I was pretty slow catching my bag on the other lakes - I did "loose" a few on my barbless flies so time was pressing)
So all in all I think Meon's cool water makes it an attractive proposition for some easy fishing in the heat of summer. Thanks for your comments.

Meon fishes ok in the summer but i would ring and check about their water levels. CS is a good shout as well, i was there in the peak of the heat and did ok. |
I'm at CS on Thursday |
Two less stockies for Rogb on the weekend then |
Good thing I don't take these sort of comments personally, you scrawny toe rag
Where is his majesty? Loving Doris |
As far as I know his lordship is on holiday....probably no fishing! |
Quelle surpise I knew it wouldn't last. Good to see that Sarah knows her place |
Sarah's still in the process of getting her claws in. after the ring goes on he'll be in the same bateau...
I'm back tho, and desperate to wet a line. thinking about CS. |
