I was fishing on Wednesday and all of the fish I hooked (didn't land them all) were taken while side casting along the margins, less than a yard out. A couple were less than a foot out.

All I can add to what has already been said is that a well ginked G&H Sedge also works well as a buoyant point fly. The fish often take the sedge on my local rez.
